9 English Honors

Attention All HONORS STUDENTS!

Weekly Reading

A requirement for being in the honors class is to read 175 pages a week.  It turns out to be about a book a week.  Our hope is that every student will read 40 books by the end of the year.  In order for students to accomplish reading a book a week, they should be reading each night to reach the 175 pages a week.

The Critics Corner

Honor Students at PJHS have the opportunity to attend a play or a musical every term.  After you attend the play or musical write a review of the event.  Please follow the requirements for each write up as detailed in the Critics Corner Handout.

Please review the Critic's Corner PowerPoint for suggestions on how to write a review from a play or musical you have attended.

You may also reference the Critic's Corner Checklist, as an aid to help you write a polished professional review.

Another document that may help you write a great review is How to Write a Review.

To view a book review by Rodman Philbrick and see the steps he follows click on his name.

40 Hour Project
Along with The Critics Corner, honor students need to work on a 40 hour project throughout the year.  The document that explains the requirements is named 20-30-40 Hour Project English Honors Intro.  There are two rubrics, one for each focus.  For example, if the main focus of your project is writing, please review the 40HourProjectRubricWRITING to be familiar with the grading criteria. If you have any questions please come talk to me.
